Laos to Complete Border Documents with Cambodia to Be Signed During PM Visit

Japan: Laos is determined to complete the preparation of a master document related to the border with Cambodia and to have it ready for the signing ceremony when the Cambodian Prime Minister visits Laos in the near future. Laos is asking Cambodia to continue its international cooperation.

Addressing in a meeting with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen in Kumamoto, Japan on the morning of April 23, 2022, Laos Prime Minister Phankham Viphavanh informed PM Hun Sen that his government was preparing to finalize border documents with Cambodia before Prime Minister Hun Sen State visit, to be signed during his visit.

Minister Delegate assigned to the Prime Minister, Mr. Kao Kim Hourn, told reporters: "His Excellency highlighted the cooperation between the two countries; in particular, he was committed to what he has implemented, which is a decision between the two countries."

The Prime Minister of Cambodia Hun Sen agreed with Mr. Phankham Viphavanh and stated that Cambodia and Laos in the future need to prepare relevant documents to have prepared when he visits Laos.

During Phankham Viphavanh's visit to Cambodia in November 2021, the Lao Prime Minister promised to complete the construction of the Cambodia-Laos border post within the next year, as both sides have now complete 121 border posts, or 86 percent of the border line.
